[Review] Dreamworks Mr. Peabody and Sherman is fast, funny and smart

In this 3-D action-adventure animated film, Ty Burrell voices a talking super-dog named Mr. Peabody, based on a character that appeared during The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. Mr. Peabody's invention accidentally alters time with his invention the WABAC machine, and along with his adopted son, Sherman (voiced by Max Charles), must hurry up to fix the machine before all of time and history is permanently altered.

 It's a really cool movie for the whole family ! In fact, it's a perfect mixture of fun, adventure and (emotions)!

We're introduced to the movie by Mr. Peabody (a talking dog and the smartest ever). First, he introduced himself and his inventions...then, he presented Sherman, his adopted boy.

‘Mr. Peabody & Sherman’ Soundtrack Details

Relativity Music Group will release the official soundtrack album for DreamWorks Animation’s Mr. Peabody & Sherman. The album features the film’s original score composed by Danny Elfman (Batman, Spider-Man, The Nightmare Before Christmas). Also included is John Lennon’s classic song Beautiful Boy  and the original song Way Back When by Grizfolk. The soundtrack will be released on March 4, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon.

New Rocky & Bullwinkle Short announced By Dreamworks Animation

At the World Animation and VFX Festival in Marina Del Rey, producer Tiffany Ward presented voice actress legend June Foray with a lifetime achievement award (below photo) - and tipped some news to the crowd. Today Dreamworks Animation made it official - there will be a new Rocky and Bullwinkle theatrical short released in 2014.
Rocky & Bullwinkle, featuring the legendary June Foray as the voice of Rocket "Rocky" J. Squirrel, is an all-new short produced in the style of the original Jay Ward cartoon serials - albeit in 3-D CGI and in full animation.  Dreamworks Animation's Mr. Peabody and Sherman opens on March 7, reintroducing characters who initially appeared on the original Rocky And His Friends show - but no word yet if the the new Rocky and Bullwinkle short will accompany the feature.

New Stills for the upcoming 'Mr. Peabody and Sherman' : Sneak Peek (UPDATE)

Mr. Peabody (voiced by Ty Burrell) is a genius dog, and Sherman (Max Charles) is his adopted son. Even the WABAC (pronounced "way back") time-travel machine is back, but modernized for a new generation.

 New Stills for the upcoming Dreamworks animation feature 'Mr. Peabody and Sherman' 

One big update from the original -- Mr. Peabody drives a scooter with a sidecar. Director Rob Minkoff says the discussion of the right vehicle for the talking dog was a long one. "This scooter just sort of fit his personality."

Minkoff is confident that even the generation that has never heard of the original will love the 3-D screen version. "I pitch it to kids who don't know the characters, and when they hear that Mr. Peabody is a dog that adopts a boy, it just sort of blows their mind," he says. "They love it."

Sherman uses the WABAC machine to travel back in time to learn about history firsthand. And it works for the girls, too, including classmate Penny Peterson (Modern Family's Ariel Winter). Here, Sherman takes her on a spin on Leonardo da Vinci's flying machine.

 The adventure begins when Penny decides she likes ancient Egypt so much that she's going to stay forever. This is a big no-no for time travel. "The prospect of altering history is something they have to worry about," Minkoff says. That forces Mr. Peabody to save the day, torches and all.

 The film "expands the relationship" between Mr. Peabody and Sherman, Minkoff says. The oddball family has never had to deal with outside influences -- like girls.
